Bills of Materials and Product Kits for Small Manufacturers in Nepal
How small Nepali manufacturers and packers can use kits and bills of materials so finished goods consume the right raw materials and stock stays explainable.

A small factory, a packer, or a workshop often buys materials and sells something else: a bundle, a packed unit, or a made item. If only the finished name is billed, the materials stay on the books forever.
Sajilo IMS kits and bundles are how a sold item can stand for the pieces inside it. A bill of materials is the same idea written as a recipe: this finished good uses these quantities of these materials.
Write the recipe before you sell the pack
List each component and the quantity in one finished unit, in the unit you actually stock. A recipe in “packets” while the godown counts “kilograms” will not consume stock correctly.
Include the pack, label, or bottle if you track them as inventory. Leave out rent and labour. Those are costs for the accounts, not SKUs that leave the shelf.
Decide whether you build first or consume on sale
If you assemble in the morning and sell from finished stock, record a build that consumes materials and adds the finished good. If you only pack when the customer orders, the sale itself should consume the components.
Do not do both for the same unit or you will deduct materials twice. Pick one path per item and teach that path only.
When the recipe changes
A cheaper substitute or a festival pack size is a new recipe or a dated change, not a quiet edit that rewrites last month’s consumption. Finished goods already made should keep the recipe they were built with.
Count materials after the first week of using the kit. If the floor is short and the system is not, the quantities in the recipe are wrong or staff are issuing extra outside the system.
Frequently asked questions
- Is a gift hamper a bill of materials?
- Yes, if the hamper is made of items you also stock separately. Define the contents once, then sell the hamper so those items leave stock.
- What about scrap and wastage?
- Expected wastage can be in the recipe quantity. Unexpected damage should be a stock adjustment with a reason, so it does not hide inside a fake sale.
