Building a Simple Loyalty Program for Repeat Customers in Nepal

How a Nepali shop can reward repeat customers without a complicated points engine: named customers, purchase history, and a rule staff can apply the same way every day.

Points, stamps, and “I will give you something” all collapse when staff cannot see what the customer already bought. The useful version is smaller: know who came back, and apply one reward you can explain.

Start with customers you sell to more than once. Save those sales under their name in Sajilo IMS so the history is not a stack of anonymous cash bills.

Pick one rule and write it down

Examples that shops can run: a fixed discount after a monthly total, a free item after a counted number of bills, or an agreed wholesale rate for a named trader. Pick one. A mix of personal favours is not a program.

The rule needs a threshold, who may apply it, and whether it applies before tax. If only the owner can approve it, say so, and use roles so cashiers cannot invent a second rule at the counter.

Identity before rewards

A loyalty offer without a customer name becomes a discount for whoever asks. Use one record per regular customer. Phone number is usually the least confusing key.

Look at their recent bills before you promise a reward. Memory of “they buy a lot” is often one large festive purchase and then nothing.

Do not let the reward break stock or margin

A free item still leaves stock. Record it as a sale at zero or as a return-and-reissue your accountant accepts, but do not hand it over with no entry. Otherwise the shelf and the system drift.

Check the discount against cost on fast movers. A loyal customer who buys below cost is not a win. Review the rule when purchase prices move.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a points app?
Not to begin. If you cannot name the customer and apply one rule, points will only add a second balance nobody reconciles.
Should every walker-in join?
No. Enroll people who return. A database of one-time festival shoppers is a list, not a program.
